World Diatomite Sites for Google Earth Version 2.05 To load the "USGS diatomite v2.05.kml" you will first need to download and install the Google Earth application on your computer. Google Earth is free and is available for download at Google's web sites: earth.google.co.uk earth.google.com Once installed you can either double-click the KML file which will then launch Google Earth and load the data into the Temprary Places tag. Or you can launch Google Earth youself and Open the file from the menu bar. Version 2.06 Sorted out some typos. Added some new locations. Tidied up the pop-up formatting. Once installed you can simply launch the ".kml" file and it will automatically load the Google Earth application. A run-time Help page has been provided explaining the icons and structure and can be viewed by clicking the 'Help' link in the list presented. Version 3.0 The KML file has been somewhat grandly renamed World Diatomite Locations. Added is a Reset option that sets the view location and range back to initial load settings. Also added the HMS Challenger Stations. Though members are unlikely to go dredging the Atlantic Trench themselves many slides and sample tubes are in circulation (albeit private collections) and many of you will at least have slides. Also added is a Guano Deposit section. This includes a few locations gleaned from slides in my collection and also a list of the Islands annexed under the Guano Islands Act 1856. Many islands were worked, some not, but I'm sure samples or slides will turn up for many of them. Version 3.01 Modifications to the label tags of the Challenger Expedition stations. The original display was somewhat cluttered and busy. Locations now identified by 'Stn.xx'. Cherryfield, Maine, USA locations courtesy of Keith Shaw. Version display. Updated Help. Factory Bog, Nova Scotia location corrected. A section in Historical Records added. HUNGARY. This page is a result of work carried out by myself and Klaus in identifying the pre Treaty of Trianon (1920) placenames associated with diatom samples or slides. Version 3.02 New Locations added. Location Identity Numbers have been normalised to avoid duplication. An Old to New mapping (PDF file) is included in the download. Sites requiring confirmation or refining identified by different icon. Version 3.03 New Locations added (mostly European). Version 3.04 New Zealand Locations Added Version 3.05 Old 1947 Australian Locations added from "A Study of Australian Diatomites &c." by Irene Crispin 1947 The coordinates of all these are approximate and it is suggested that any diatomite explorer check out the exact locations before embarking on a trip. Version 3.06 Corrections to formatting and coordinates
